Preteens With Cell Phones
By Brains on Mar 27, 2009 in Technology
My ten year old niece has a nicer cell phone than I do and I am an adult who earns my own paycheck each month. This sweet child isn’t even old enough to babysit yet but possesses the means to get and pay for a state of the art cell phone monthly. Shouldn’t 10 year olds be playing with Barbie’s and watching Hannah Montana on the television? Instead, my niece checks her Facebook page on her wireless internet compatible cell phone.
I realize preteen years have changed since I was a kid. I understand children grow up just a little faster than before. I can even wrap my mind around a child having a cell phone so he or she can keep in contact with mom and dad. However, I was not prepared for my niece to show me how she checks the internet using wireless phone headsets to check email and set up dates with her friends using Outlook to schedule her outings. This child walks around with back up cellular phone batteries so she doesn’t miss an important phone call. This precious 10 year old child could be running the world by the time she gets to high school with the amount of technology she uses on a given day.
