When The Little White Lie Gets Big

I used to be one of those people who thought that it was really no big deal to tell a little white lie. Then I had an experience which made me think that it’s a whole lot better to just tell the truth.

The situation wasn’t even that big of a deal really. I had gone to my boyfriend’s mom’s house for dinner and she had showed me the new camouflage bedding that she’d gotten because her other son had just joined the army. I thought it looked hideous but told her that I liked it. Little white lie.

A few months later, she shows up at our house with custom bedding for every bed in our home. She had decided to get personalized photo blankets of her military son and the rest of the family all done up in camouflage coloring. And she expected it to stay on our beds.

For months, I was surrounded by bedding I couldn’t stand until finally I decided that enough was enough and I was taking it down. Of course, that’s when she dropped by for a visit. And I had to say that the bedding was out at a custom cleaners. And when she came over for dinner the next week, I had to say that I hadn’t had time to go to the cleaners yet which was why the bedding wasn’t back on the beds yet.

Oh how I wished I’d just told her from the beginning that I didn’t like it. Imagine what trouble some of my other white lies might get me into!
