Cats like to sleep and they like to scratch.  That is why there are two very important pieces of furniture that every pet owner should get.  They are pet beds and scratching posts.  The pet beds come in a variety of different looks.  They can be a covered box-like bed that is more like a house for the feline.  It can also be more like a pillow.  Sometimes the pillow has a raised edge, while other times it does not.  It may just be like a big comfortable bed you can throw on the floor.  Or if this does not work, your cat will just use your couch or your bed.  Cats tend to be more independent and make their own decisions.

The other thing that is essential to have is a scratching post.  Cats like to scratch; it is something they have done since the beginning of time. Having a raised scratching post is one option, having a flat mat made out of a sturdy fabric is another option.  This way the cat can scratch their paws and make them feel better.  It is a good thing to have these options, so that your furniture stays scratch free.
