The maternity dress I wore to the black tie dinner was something that I had found at the last minute.  I was six months pregnant and my husband’s company was having an awards dinner at which he was being honored, and as his wife I needed to be there to cheer him on.  I had to look for a dress at the hotel that we were staying at. 

It was a little harder than I thought it would be to find something appropriate to wear from a resort shop.  They did not have a lot of maternity clothing to choose from.  I had packed both a maternity skirt and a maternity top to wear, but after seeing what the other wives were going to wear, I knew that I needed to find a maternity dress that was more elegant than a basic skirt and top.

I eventually found a beautiful black dress to wear.  It was so simple and classic that it was just right.  I dressed it up with simple jewelry and got my hair done professionally, so I think I looked better than some other wives.  There is something to be said for being able to put together an outfit when resources are limited and your old girlish figure is now visibly pregnant.
