What is Dahn Yoga?

I’ve been hearing a lot about Dahn Yoga lately, so I wondered what it was.  I looked it up, and it turns out that it’s much more than the typical yoga known by most people.  Apparently it’s a combination of martial arts, tai chi, and yoga, it was created by a Korean named Ilchi Lee in the 1980s, when he started teaching it in a park.

Since then, Dahn Yoga has spread throughout the world, and has become especially popular as a type of exercise for many Americans.  For instance, you can find Dahn Yoga in Chicago and New York.  CA Dahn Yoga is also popular.

The major difference between Dahn Yoga and other forms of yoga or martial arts is that Dahn Yoga focuses on the brain.  The idea is that through Dahn Yoga, one can realize the limitless potential of their brain.  Advocates cite health benefits such as:

  • A better sense of wellbeing
  • Recovery from illness and disease
  • Better management of and relief from stress
  • Healthy weight loss and management
  • Increased physical fitness
  • Feelings of youthfulness

Dahn Yoga is also called Dahnhak or Dahn Hak, which roughly translates to the "theory of primal energy."
