Therapeutic Magnets and Safety

Since nine out of every ten adults will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives, it’s no surprise that forms of alternative pain relief such as therapeutic magnets have become quite popular in recent years. As with any type of medical device, it’s important to educate yourself on the safety precautions for magnetic therapy.

One important factor to be aware of when choosing a magnetic therapy product is its brand-name. Ask yourself how long the particular magnet has been on the market and investigate how it claims to achieve back pain relief. You should also note whether or not the product mentions side-effects. While some minor skin irritation is normal, magnetic therapy products should not typically list adverse side-effects.

Keep in mind that most types of magnets used for pain relief should not be near any sort of medical electronic equipment such as infusion pumps or pacemakers, as these devices might impair the impair the functioning of the magnet and vice-versa. Therapeutic magnets should also be kept away from other electronic equipment such as floppy discs or computer hard drives.

Finally, remember that therapeutic magnets are for pain relief only; they are not a cure. You should always consult your doctor about what condition may be causing the pain before seeking the help of magnets as a companion to pain management and therapy.
