Learning to Be Craftier
By boxBrain on Dec 9, 2008 in General
Lately I’ve been interested in being a little craftier, making things for myself. A great example is with my dolls: I collect dolls and I’ve been thinking of things to make for them. I turned a pair of old flannel pajama pants into a quilt for a doll bed, and I have been trying to come up with a nice background for professional-looking doll photography.
Another example is Halloween costumes. I couldn’t think of a costume — any costume — this past Halloween, and I was really disappointed afterward not to have dressed up. I wish I could think of clever costumes to make. I remember when I was a kid, there were always a few moms who made Halloween costumes for kids. Their kids were always the best dressed on Halloween — with poodle skirts, Wizard of Oz costumes, or anything else their kids might want, while the rest of us were limited to what was sold in the store.
I know I’m creative, but I don’t always have the time or the ability to make something look like what’s in my head. I think I might look into some classes on photography and perhaps even some craft classes — I want to learn to be craftier!
