Have Cooking Shows Altered Cooking School Attendance?

cooking-shows

There are a lot of cooking shows on television today. I mean, there’s an entire Food Network filled with shows about cooking. In addition to this channel, there are cooking shows airing on many other channels. There are even cooking reality shows on prime time on the major networks. I wonder how this overwhelming number of cooking shows has affected attendance at cooking schools.

On the one hand, I could see how the interest in these cooking shows has potentially increased attendance at cooking schools culinary arts programs. More and more people are exposed to the secrets of how to be a great chef. These people are learning that great cooking is something that they can do at home if they have the right tools, the right recipes and the right teachers. This may encourage people to think about actually getting a degree in the culinary arts. These shows bring the skills to their homes and therefore make people realize that they’re capable of completing such a course.

However, I could also see how the availability of these television shows might have a negative impact on attendance at cooking schools. After all, you can now learn a lot about cooking just from watching TV. If you’re a good self-learner then you may not feel the need to attend a school to learn these skills. So what do you think? Has the vast number of television cooking shows increased or decreased cooking school attendance?
