Pros and Cons of Freelance Careers
By bwb on Aug 28, 2008 in Careers
There are really wonderful things about freelancing that have caused many people in diverse fields of work to try to launch freelance careers. There are also some serious drawbacks about freelancing that make it so that many people opt to return to working in a non-freelance area of their business.
The good news is that most college students these days are actually fairly well aware of the positives and negatives of freelancing which was not always the case. Students used to see only the good side of freelancing and this often led to them jumping into freelance jobs that they weren’t ready for. Now teachers are letting students in on the good and bad about this approach to work.
Ask the students who are involved in computer graphic design programs at Collins College in Tempe AZ what they think about the idea of freelancing and you will find that most of them have a really realistic picture of what is good and what is bad about freelancing as a graphic designer.
What most students will tell you is that they want to freelance ’someday’ because they think that the pros do outweigh the cons but that they want to gain experience and a steady stream of income from a ‘normal’ job before they make that move.
