Building a Career Worth Boasting About
By Brains on Aug 25, 2008 in Careers
With my 10 year high school reunion approaching, I began thinking about what I had to show for my life. After high school, the world seemed full of promise. With my life ahead of me, I didn’t feel the immediate need to go to school or find a career. After trying several retail and waitressing jobs, I landed in a sales job. I made great money with flexible work schedule but I couldn’t say I loved my job.
As I thought back on the 10 years since high school, I hadn’t fulfilled my dreams. I wanted to work in the health care field like my mother. As a nurse, she had a flexible schedule and she seemed to enjoy her work. I decided to pursue a diploma in medical assistant programs in Houston which gave me training in surgical technology. With the training that I received at Sanford Brown Institute Houston, I got a position at the local hospital. I can say that in my position as a Surgery Technician, I make a difference in people’s lives. Working a 3 day, 12 hour schedule, I have more free time than I could ever imagine. Also, the pay scale allows for advancement and pay increases. Now, I have a career worth bragging about at my 10 year high school reunion.
