Who May Be Interested in Photogrammetry

There is a subcategory of aerial photography called photogrammetry which relies on remote sensing technology and mathematics to create accurate images of the land. This is a scientific art which may appeal to a diverse group of people.

Those people who may take an interest in photogrammetry include:

  • Architects. In order to design the right building for a space, you need to be able to accurately see the whole space.
  • Builders. People actually doing the building on a piece of land want to know the ins and outs of the topography before they begin.
  • Archaeologists. When uncovering underground civilizations and historic relics, it helps to be able to look at the land from above.
  • Photographers. A niche group of photographers may take an interest in this area of the art. It’s also a tool that can be used in film.
  • Meteorologists. Information provided through photogrammetry can be used to predict weather conditions such as tornado patterns.
  • Special police crews. There are rare instances in which the police need to see a location from an aerial image to plot out safety strategies.

The average person doesn’t think much about the different ways that aerial photos are taken. However, many different groups in society may find that the art interests them when they look at it more closely.
