Should I Get a Business Degree?

Although I am first and foremost a writer, I am also a an entrepreneur and the sole proprietor of my own business.  My degree — a Bachelor of Arts in English — largely supports my writing aspirations, but what about the business side of things?

I’ve been thinking of continuing my education, but the real question is which direction I’ll take it in.  I’ve considered getting a master’s degree in writing, though I lean more toward professional and business writing (what I do for a living) than creative writing (what I’d like to be doing, if only it would pay the bills!).

But I can’t help but wonder if I should instead consider getting a more business-oriented master’s — perhaps pursue my MBA, as my sister is doing.  A degree in marketing might also help, not only in marketing my own business but also in providing my services, since I do a lot of marketing and PR writing.

One thing is for sure, though — no matter what degree I ultimately decide to pursue, I’ll be looking at online degree programs.  The online classes I took as part of my bachelor’s degree convinced me that online education is the way of the future, even if it’s not widely accepted yet (although that is improving all the time).  I’ve already found an online master’s degree in writing that I would be interested in pursuing, so now I just need to take a look at some online business degrees and decide which direction I’d like to take!
