The Best Aftermarket Purchase You’ll Make
By boxBrain on Jun 24, 2008 in Automotive
There are a lot of things you can do to your car these days to make it look unique. Aftermarket parts offer a lot of options, but most of them are — in my opinion — kind of tacky and temporary-looking. There is one purchase that I wholeheartedly agree with, though, and that is getting custom rims for your car.
Stock wheels — that is, the wheels that come on your car when you buy it — are usually not very attractive. Often cars have ugly wheels with hubcaps to cover them, but more often now car manufacturers are simply putting plain, simple wheels on cars. Even BMW wheels and Audi wheels are sometimes kind of lame from the factory. However, you can usually get nicer wheels by buying them aftermarket.
Aftermarket wheels are usually wider than stock wheels, and if you get wider tires to go with them, that actually makes the tires not wear as fast — the more surface of the tire is on the road at any one time, the more surface area the wear is spread out over, and the more life you get out of the tire. (Providing you don’t get super-soft high-performance tires, of course.)
Also, aftermarket wheels generally look much better on the car. They give it a nicer appearance, which makes you happier and may even help with the resale value later on.
