How Auto Repair Shops Can Help Reduce Emissions
By boxBrain on Jan 24, 2008 in Automotive
Only a month ago, the European Union turned up the heat on requirements that automakers limit their vehicles’ emissions. While we’re probably a long ways from those strict types of regulations here in the United States, auto repair shops can still do their part in helping reduce emissions.
We already know that cars in less-than-perfect shape tend to produce more emissions, contributing more to air polution and, ultimately, natural crises such as global warming. Although we’ll need similar regulations as those the European Union have passed in order to ensure that car manufacturers make a concerted effort to reduce emissions, every little bit helps — and what we can accomplish right now is to make sure our cars are in good working order, and therefore emit the lowest possible amount of carbon monoxide and other pollutants.
Both foreign and domestic automotive repair shops can contribute by encouraging customers to regularly maintenance their cars and have all necessary repairs done as quickly as possible. A really ambitious repair shop could add incentive by offering discounts to customers who drive energy efficient vehicles, such as hybrids and cars that get exceptionally high gas mileage.
Encouraging cars to be maintained better, and if possible traded in for more energy-efficient vehicles, can help customers in other ways, too, such as in meeting state inspections Houston requirements.
