An Auto and Truck Accessories Adventure

In general, I am not much of a car guy. I’m more focused on how reliable, efficient and economically secure my car gets me from point A to point B than I am on how the car looks or sounds or how powerful it is.
One of my best friends, Mike, though, is a car guy. It’s not his life or anything, but he loves cars. He’s been a mechanic and has rebuilt a few cars on his own. I remember when we were 16 or 17; he had this real piece of junk 15-year-old Pontiac. It was the only car he could afford because his parents had been “kind” enough to pass it down to him, so he did anything and everything in his power to keep it moving, including several Sundays rebuilding the carburetor.
As awful as that car was, he would not stop working on it. On occasion, he would even consider putting money into it to make it look “good.” I understood the little necessary touch-ups like new wheel covers and headlights, which brought the car back up to near-respectability, but some of his ideas were just insane. For instance, one day he came back from the barber with a Truck Accessories, including chrome accessories, magazine, looking at chrome rims. And one summer, we took a painting job, and he insisted that we had to out some ladder racks on the Pontiac.
